Asian weddings are rich with tradition, vibrant colors, and meaningful rituals. As someone who has spent years behind the lens, I know that asian wedding photography is about more than just snapping pictures. It’s about telling a story of two families coming together, the emotions, the details, and the moments that make the day unforgettable. Here’s what I focus on to capture the full essence of an Asian wedding.
Bride Getting Ready
The bride’s preparation is one of the most intimate and emotional parts of the day. I pay close attention to the details: the intricate henna designs on her hands, the delicate jewellery, the vibrant saree or lehenga, and the careful application of makeup. These moments often reveal a mix of excitement and nerves, which makes for authentic, heartfelt photos.
I also capture candid interactions with family and friends, the laughter, the tears, and the quiet moments of reflection. These images create a beautiful narrative of the bride’s journey before she walks down the aisle.
Groom Getting Ready
The groom’s preparation is equally important but often less documented. I focus on the groom’s attire, from the turban tying to the traditional sherwani or kurta. Capturing the groom’s emotions as he prepares to meet his bride adds balance to the story.
Moments with close family members, like the father helping adjust the groom’s outfit or friends sharing a laugh, bring warmth and depth to the wedding album. These photos show the groom’s side of the celebration, which is just as meaningful.
Ceremonies: Haldi, Mehendi, Baraat, Sangeet, Phera, Nikah,Vidaai/Rukhsati
Asian weddings are a series of vibrant ceremonies, each with its own significance and energy. Here’s how I approach them:
Haldi: The turmeric ceremony is full of color and joy. I focus on the playful application of haldi on the bride and groom, capturing the smiles and the lively atmosphere.
Mehendi: This ceremony is all about the intricate henna designs and the festive mood. I photograph the detailed henna application and the celebrations around it.
Baraat: The groom’s procession is dynamic and energetic. I capture the dance, the music, and the excitement as the groom arrives at the venue.
Sangeet: This musical night is filled with performances and celebrations. I focus on the candid moments of joy, dance, and family bonding.
Vidaai/Rukhsati: The emotional farewell of the bride is one of the most touching moments. I aim to capture the tears, hugs, and the bittersweet feelings as she leaves her parental home.
Decor and Details
The decor in Asian weddings is often elaborate and symbolic. From floral arrangements to traditional motifs, every detail adds to the story. I photograph close-ups of the decorations, the wedding mandap, the jewellery, and even the wedding invitations. These images help preserve the atmosphere and the cultural richness of the event.
Couple Portraits
Finally, the couple portraits are a chance to capture the love and connection between the bride and groom. I look for natural light and beautiful backgrounds, often incorporating elements of the wedding decor. These portraits are timeless keepsakes that the couple will cherish forever.
